Ravens reporting to training camp in good health

Despite a few lingering injuries from last season and a global pandemic that has threatened players’ safety as a whole across the league, the Ravens are set to report to training camp in good health.

On a Zoom call with reporters Thursday morning, coach John Harbaugh said he expects the team to report in good shape, with most of the team’s injury worries having not been extended into 2020.

Cornerback Tavon Young “looks great” after missing the entire season with a neck injury last year, Harbaugh said. Young is one of the top slot cornerbacks in the league when he’s healthy, though he’s missed two of the last three seasons with injuries.

With his return, the Ravens will have one of the most formidable secondaries in the entire NFL.

Additionally, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (triceps) and safety DeShon Elliott (knee) both look good, Harbaugh said, and they’ll be ready for camp.

The lone question mark, however, is center Matt Skura, who had a promising season end on Nov. 25 against the Rams with a torn ACL, MCL and PCL.

“Hearing great things,” Harbaugh said. “I’m optimistic about Matt. I really am. That’s a big plus for us, if he can do it. But we’ll be careful and we’ll see how he looks and how he feels. And a lot of it will be up to Matt, too, but he knows himself real well. I know he’s worked really, really hard to be ready.”

Skura’s wife is set to have a baby in the coming days, so he hasn’t been at the team facility – he’ll start football activities on Monday.

Otherwise, the Ravens have no lingering injury concerns from last year.

Wide receiver De’Anthony Thomas and tackle Andre Smith opted out for the 2020 season, while safety Nigel Warrior was put on the injured reserve/COVID-19 list. Undrafted free agent tight end Jacob Breeland, who is on the active non-football injury list, isn’t expected to play this season while recovering from a knee injury he suffered at Oregon.
