Wilson coughed up the lead that the Yankees got in the 10th inning of their first game against the Tigers this series, surrendering a walk-off, two-run home run to Robbie Grossman. He was then put on the IL the next day with a hamstring strain — after no word of any injury problem following the game. It’s possible that this was just something the team discovered later on, but the way Boone describes the situation, it feels more like a temporary demotion for a struggling reliever.

The 36-year-old barely played with the Philadelphia Phillies — where he signed a two-year deal after his second stint in New York — thanks to Tommy John surgery, and is looking for a comeback attempt.

Finally, the team made some roster moves after Saturday’s loss to the Tigers. Deivi García and Albert Abreu were sent down to Scranton, with a subsequent call-up still waiting to be made. There was plenty of speculation that this would be a big opportunity for García to stick around with the club thanks to Corey Kluber’s injury, but for now García will head back to the Triple-A level and wait for his next start to come.
