World mental health day 2021, world mental health day

According to a recent LinkedIn report, more than half of India’s employed professionals are feeling stressed at work. As per it, 55% of working professionals face this issue. The survey response of 3,881 professionals showcases that India’s overall workforce confidence remained steady with a composite score of above 55 from July 31 to September 24, 2021, but the last 18 months have adversely affected the mental health of working professionals in the country.

Therefore, professionals need to maintain a healthy mental lifestyle so that their productivity and growth can improve. Below are some tips to curb the tensions:

  1. Yoga:

Yoga is a physical exercise that involves different body poses and breathing techniques. Yoga helps in depression, difficulty concentrating, or loss of energy.

What yoga therapy helps with:

  • Mental and emotional problems, such as stress, anxiety or depression.
  • Conditions and disorders, such as ongoing low back pain
  • Chronic or long-term pain
  • Overall health and well being
  1. Meditation

Meditation has been practised for thousands of years. Meditation was originally meant to help deepen understanding of the sacred and mystical forces of life. These days, meditation is commonly used for relaxation and stress reduction.

Benefits of Meditation:

  • Gaining a new perspective on a stressful situation
  • Building skills to manage your stress
  • Increasing self-awareness
  • Focusing on the present
  • Reducing negative emotions
  • Increasing imagination and creativity
  • Increasing patience and tolerance
  1. Exercise

Exercise does prompt your body to release good hormones like endorphins, which can help you feel less stressed. Stress can also make you subconsciously tense your muscles, which exercise might help to release.

Some examples of workouts:

  • Walking around a block
  • 20 jumping jacks
  • A quick run for 10 minutes
  1. Organise

Stress can kick in when you are dealing with being overwhelmed by the number of tasks that need to be done or deadlines that must be met. Focus on making things easier for you and seeing each task through competition. Priorities what must be done first and identify what can be left to a later time.

Some examples:

  • Making a to-do list
  • Organizing wardrobe
  • Keeping things ready
  • Do not wait till the last minute.
  1. Arts and Crafts

Many people who are artistically inclined say that the creation of art is a wonderful stress buster. Creating art can provide a catharsis for difficult emotions, a distraction from stressful thoughts and experiences, and change to get into a state of flow that can be restorative in many ways.

Advice from a Mental Health Expert:

“Mental Health was earlier surrounded by lots of stigmas, but the good thing is throughout lockdown many people were seeking advice via counselling and many are continuing to do so when any issue persists”, said Afrin Parween, Freelance Mental health professional.

“Maintaining a career and personal life can get very hectic for anyone. It needs careful planning and preparation. Focus on the important instead of the urgent. It is important to take care of your mental health and consult a professional at the right time,” said Parween.

He further added, “Talk about your feelings, be active, eat well, think positive, spend time with family, read a book, make a meal and most importantly take a break.”
