Library hosting Community Health Fair

Oct. 9—HENDERSON — On Saturday, Perry Memorial Library is hosting a Community Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal of the Community Health Fair is to promote the importance of health in Vance County and answer questions the public might have about COVID-19, the vaccine, and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The library is encouraging people of all ages to come out and participate.

“Health literacy is very important to me,” said Christy Bondy, the assistant library director. “I’m just an advocate for living a healthy lifestyle and I want to make sure that folks in this community do know what resources are available to them to live a healthy lifestyle.”

The library is partnering with Granville-Vance Public Health, the Henderson Family YMCA, The Blood Connection, the Kerr-Tar Area Agency on Aging, and Operation Spring Plan. Each organization is offering health tips, supplies, and information on their organization and programming.

The fair will consist of information on COVID-19, community resources/ programs offered through community partners, how to live a healthier lifestyle, and senior citizens’ health insurance.

Blood Connection will be taking blood donations and all donors will be given a $20 gift card.

Granville-Vance Public Health will be providing on-site COVID-19 vaccinations.

Swag bags will be available as well which include a wellness journal, mask and more.

The library has been focusing on its health literacy initiatives like the new StoryWalk at Fox Pond Park. The StoryWalk combines reading and exercise.

In case of rain, Saturday’s event may be moved inside.
