Tracy Anderson’s tips for fitness and health in 2021
Tracy Anderson knows what it takes to sweat it out in style.
While the fitness pioneer’s star-studded client list includes Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, her tips for shaping up and staying healthy in 2021 don’t require a multimillion-dollar mansion or Hollywood paycheck.
“The first thing you need to do is unblock any misconceptions that you have in your brain of needing a lot of space to take care of your health or to get the body that feels the most balanced to you,” Anderson told Page Six Style.
“If you can lay on the ground anywhere in your house … and do a snow angel, you have exactly what it takes.”
Even Paltrow has been taking advantage of Anderson’s live-streamed workouts during the pandemic, occasionally joined by her 16-year-old daughter, Apple.
The Goop maven first enlisted the Tracy Anderson Method creator’s help in 2006, when she found it “more difficult” to get back in shape for “Iron Man” after giving birth to her second child, Moses. They’ve been friends ever since, and have swapped plenty of wellness tips over the years.
“We’re both big foodies,” Anderson told us, adding that Paltrow has helped her stick to a healthy eating plan. “There was a moment when I was dunking an Oreo into Pillsbury chocolate frosting and Gwyneth was like, ‘What in the hell are you doing? That stuff is poison.’ I haven’t had one since.”
Added Anderson, “She also got me out of the tanning bed, so she’s had a couple really positive moments in my life.”
Reflecting on 2020, Anderson believes that the unprecedented year “brought forward many examples of how our health affects us,” and that working out is “one of the most powerful things that you can do for your immune system and for your healthy tissues.”
While she’s fan of Kate Hudson’s “cute and sassy” Fabletics brand and exercises “a lot” in Kim Kardashian’s Skims, the trendsetting trainer also has her own line of workout wear; her latest launch, dubbed Rebel Ballerina, includes dance-inspired styles like ruched leggings and leotard-style tops.

While Anderson now models her styles for online classes rather than in-person ones at her seven studio locations, she said her clients have approached the transition to virtual training with “togetherness and gratitude … whether they are a huge celebrity or any one of my streamers.”
For those looking to shake up their own workout routines for 2021, she recommends starting from “a place of curiosity, like a kid that is excited to learn a new sport.”
It’s also crucial to avoid making “toxic” comparisons between your body and famous physiques.
“I think it’s very unhealthy for people to say that … they want Jennifer Lopez’s butt or they want Gwyneth Paltrow’s legs,” Anderson said.
“Instead, you can look at them as amazing women that show up for their own health, which means that you want to show up for your health. I always say to people: Don’t want to be like somebody else, because then you are going to completely miss out on the opportunity to be you.”
Concluded the fitness guru, “The more that you connect to yourself, the more your own beauty is going to shine.”
