Eagles’ Carson Wentz a healthy scratch vs. WFT, plans to ask for trade
Reports: Carson Wentz a healthy scratch, plans to ask for trade originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz may have played his last game as an Eagles quarterback.
Wentz will reportedly be a healthy scratch for Sunday night’s game against the Washington Football Team. After getting benched during the Eagles’ 30-16 loss to the Packers, Wentz has played backup to rookie Jalen Hurts but won’t suit up for Week 17. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was first to report the news.
Hurts provided an initial boost and a change of pace for the Eagles offense that had struggled all season under Wentz. Despite this, Philadelphia reportedly remains ready to keep Wentz despite tying for a league-leading 15 interceptions and sporting a career-worst 49.4 QBR just a year and a half after signing the then-largest guaranteed contract in NFL history.
Context here: The #Eagles still think this situation is salvageable. So the thought is why even risk the possibility of injury for a key player in 2021 and beyond? We’ll see what Wentz wants. But the team wants Wentz. https://t.co/XHZC1HRifV

Even so, Wentz isn’t as keen to compete with Hurts and fight for his spot back next season, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Eagles QB Carson Wentz, benched in favor of Jalen Hurts last month, still plans to ask for a trade in the off-season because his relationship with HC Doug Pederson is fractured beyond repair, per ESPN’s @mortreport.
