Vegan pop-up food truck Vuture Food to stop in Sioux Falls in October
A California-based vegan “comfort food” truck that’s gaining a popular social media following is making a stop in Sioux Falls this month on its 50-state tour.
The pop-up food truck, which has more than 63,000 followers on Instagram, will bring a healthier version of “cheat day” to local foodies at WoodGrain Brewing Co. on Oct. 25.
Vuture (like vegan and future) Food began as a plant-based food truck in 2018 in San Pedro, California, near Long Beach. The business was founded by Dominique Villarreal to deliver plant-focused comfort food to breweries and food festivals in Southern California.
The project has grown to bring that mission nationwide now. They’ve since traveled to food festivals across the Southern United States and have just started their Upper Midwest tour, which will stop in cities such as Des Moines and Omaha before making its way to Sioux Falls.

“We just decided, ‘Screw it — we’re going to bring the food to them,” said Vuture Food crew chief, who goes by the name Gomez.
The 32-year-old said Vuture understands how difficult it can be to “dissect” menus as a vegan, especially in cities and regions that don’t have as many vegan options as California. In Sioux Falls, only a handful of restaurants offer vegan food at the forefront of their menu.
But you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy Vuture Food, Gomez said. One of the food truck’s most popular dishes is the meatless spicy “chik’n” sandwich, similar to Nashville hot chicken sandwiches. Other vegan spins include loaded buffalo fries, chicken tenders, chili dogs and more.
“We believe that once you come by, next time you see us you’ll want to come again,” Gomez said. “Fries are familiar to people who aren’t vegan, and so is buffalo sauce and other menu items. We’re still trying to have a correlation between something familiar and something that’s plant-based that they haven’t tried before.”
Vuture Food will be serving their fare between 4 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 25 at WoodGrain Brewing Co. on a first come, first serve basis, with no preorders. The group says all of their products are entirely nut-free, with their meat patties crafted from a unique combination of soy, wheat, and peas.
