Twitter trolls tease Yankees legend Derek Jeter after announcing fan policy for Marlins games amid COVID

New York Yankees legend and Miami Marlins CEO Derek Jeter announced Monday that a limited number of fans will be allowed to attend games in 2021 amid the coronavirus pandemic. Per MLB.com:

As of now, the number would be “a little north” of 20% capacity (Marlins Park can hold 37,000). “We hope that those numbers increase throughout the course of the season, but I will say the most important thing for us is to make sure that everyone is healthy and everyone is safe, and that includes the players, the coaches, the front office, but the fans as well,” Jeter said.

The Marlins plan to announce enhanced safety measures next week. Helping Marlins Park in the fight against COVID-19 is the ballpark’s retractable roof, allowing for open air to circulate.

According to For The Win, 20% capacity “would be just over 7,300 fans. In 2019, the Marlins averaged 10,016 fans per game as the listed attendance.”

As you would expect, the Twitter trolls had a field day at Jeter’s expense, despite the Marlins qualifying for the playoffs last season for the first time since winning the World Series in 2003.
