We hate to go all The Good Life on you, but the idea of a windowsill full of fresh herbs, just ready to chopped and sprinkled into whatever concoction we are making, fills us with joy.

The only problem? We struggle to keep them alive long enough for the herbs to actually make it into our latest dish.

However, just short of despairing, we came across the Cole & Mason Self-Watering Herb Keeper, a clever gadget that takes all the stress out of being a herb parent.

Why we love it:

In short: you never have to worry about forgetting to water your herbs ever again.

The clever gadget, which can hold three of your favourite herbs, does all the hard work for you, creating a thriving tray of healthy herbs for you to enjoy.

Plus, if you add up all the money you’ll save by not having to replace herb plants you’ve accidentally allowed to die, the £32 gadget practically pays for itself.

Not to mention, herb growing could be the lockdown hobby you never knew you needed.

How it works:

All you need to do is insert the hydro felt pad provided under the retaining arm and place your potted herb or herbs in the containers.

Simply fill the gadget with water through the spout and it will ensure you have fresh herbs all year round. Just check regularly to see if you need to refill the container as the plant will absorb water through the pads.

What the review say:

  • “Can’t believe how effective it is.”

  • “Bought this more to save having multiple pots on the window sill but amazed by how well it keeps herbs watered. I’ve used it for one supermarket basil pot and a couple of herbs that I’ve grown from seed.”

  • “I was given the smaller version as a gift and liked it so much I have now purchased this version for three herbs. It keeps them looking neat – and there is no mess. It is wonderful how you fill the container from the bottom and it is very effective for healthy plants as you don’t need to worry if you’re under or over-watering.”

  • “I MAY have mocked my husband for buying this BUT I take it back. It is so neat and tidy and stylish in the kitchen and so far kept our supermarket bought herbs ALIVE!”

  • “A great looking product and perfect for keeping herbs from the supermarket alive. I wish I had bought one sooner.”

  • “After trying (and failing!) many times to keep herbs alive, I have finally found something that does the job. The system definitely works and it looks very stylish in my new kitchen. The only tip I would offer is make sure the herb pots you buy are small enough to sit on the bottom to get full benefit.”
