This Healthy Grocery Store Chain Is Opening Up 20 New Locations This Year

Around 20 new Sprouts Farmers Market locations are set to open in 2021, the company recently announced. The chain currently operates 362 in 23 states that feature 19,000+ healthy, organic, and natural products and produce.

The growth planned for this year mirrors last year when 22 new stores opened during the pandemic, the chain’s CEO Jack Sinclair said in an earnings call on Feb. 25. However, some of the new stores will be testing a new format that stores opening beyond 2021 will have. Sinclair didn’t reveal too much about what that will look like but said some current stores will be remodeled, too. A “majority will be built with a smaller footprint of 25,000 square feet less providing improved box economics as they grow,” he said. Of the 20 new Sprouts Farmers Market stores, half will open in Florida, according to Supermarket News. Two are coming to Georgia, Texas, and California, and one will open in both Colorado and Nevada. Arizona is getting a new location in addition to a Phoenix location being relocated.

“This year, Sprouts will densify its footprint with more stores opening in California, Florida and Texas,” said Dave McGlinchey, Sprouts’ chief format officer in a press release. “We’re excited to introduce our newest format in four stores in the second half of 2020 and plan to feature this format with even more stores next year, when we will be expanding at unit growth of 10% or more.”
