Underwear is the most intimate part of our closet. Many of us don’t pay attention to these little pieces of cloth but studies suggest that wearing the right kind of panties can not only prevent yeast infections but can also enhance your mood and confidence.
It doesn’t matter if you are a person who is comfortable in tomboy panties or loves rocking those lacy thongs, you could face some discomfort if you ignore some healthy underwear habits.
For starters, wearing the wrong kind of underwear under a dress can cause a wardrobe malfunction. Tight panties, especially if they aren’t cotton can cause sweat, yeast infections, and ingrown hair. In extreme situations, panties like thongs can transfer E.coli bacteria from the anus to the vagina. We have collated a list of things you should keep in mind when you go underwear shopping the next time.
Choose your fabrics wisely
There is an array of panties available in the market today. While lacy, silky, netted panties are very tempting, remember that cotton is your best friend. Fabrics like cotton help absorb sweat, moisture, and allow your lady bits to breathe. Synthetic materials like nylon and spandex don’t allow the area to breathe. Instead, they trap heat and moisture, creating a perfect breeding ground for yeast infections.
The size of your panty matters
We all know by now that wearing tight panties are not good for our vaginal hygiene. Tight underwear can cause chaffing, skin irritation, and vaginal infection. Similarly, loose panties that need to be pulled up aren’t a good idea too. Always go for panties which sit perfectly on your waist, front and back end.
Invest in different panties for different occasions
Consider purchasing quality panties that are designed for different occasions. You may want to wear a different panty for workout sessions rather than those thongs which you wear for parties. Similarly, choose and bifurcate panties for workwear from the ones which are worn in the house.
Be mindful when purchasing panties online
In case you decide to buy panties online, always go through their return and exchange policies. Also bear in mind that size measurements vary from brand to brand.
Even panties have an expiry date
Well, not literally. But you may consider throwing out panties every year. It may sound a bit too much but studies have shown that even clean underwear contains up to 10,000 living bacteria. Beyond bacteria, there’s a chance your underwear could contain feces.
Panties are great mood uplifters
We’ve been talking about how good cotton panties can change the game. But we aren’t shaming thongs, strings, or bikinis. Research have shown that women feel more confident and sexier when wearing a special pair of underwear and their moods are affected with unattractive or ill-fitted panties.
Your role in maintaining vaginal hygiene just starts with purchasing the right kind of underwear. Washing your underwear is another ball game. Avoid mixing them up with other clothes. Remember, they are delicate pieces of cloth that need care. Wash them in hot water with the right detergent.
It is also important to note that it’s okay to change panties more than once a day. Vaginal discharge is normal and changing panties regularly reduces chances of infection. Lastly, never hesitate to go commando at night. Though it’s a personal choice, going panty-free allows your lady parts to breathe, keeping them dry and clean.
