The Phillies can prove they are for real against the Dodgers, plus other best bets for Tuesday

Speaking of crazy, can you imagine the New Orleans Saints trading Michael Thomas? While that may have been unheard of not too long ago, tensions do seem to be rising with the star receiver and the team, which at the very least warrants a conversation regarding his future.
In my mind, this is one of the more underrated news nuggets circling the NFL over the last calendar year. Yes, we were bombarded with news haymakers with star quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers over that time that dwarfed this Thomas situation, but the All-Pro pass catcher — when healthy — is among the very best at his position. If he’s rocketing towards a point of no return with New Orleans, he has the talent to change the landscape of the Super Bowl race if he lands with the right team.
Nothing seems to be imminent in regards to a Thomas departure, but this is something to certainly keep an eye on. If New Orleans decided to rid themselves of a player they’d save themselves $74.7M from 2022-2024. That financial piece to the puzzle shouldn’t be overlooked. Just some food for thought as we near a full slate of NFL preseason games to bet on later this week.

Tigers at Orioles, 7:05 p.m. | TV: MLB.TV
The Pick: Tigers (-111) — It’s no secret that the Orioles aren’t exactly a juggernaut. While they are simply not a good baseball team in general, they are particularly vulnerable at home, owning a 17-34 record at Camden Yards this season. Those struggles at home, along with Baltimore sending Keegan Akin — who has a 7.66 ERA this season — to the mound tonight makes this a strong lean towards Detroit.
The Tigers are also 11-1 in their last 12 meetings against the Orioles, including a 4-0 mark in Baltimore. On top of picking the Tigers here, I also love the Under on 10 runs at -105. The Under has hit in 10 of the last 11 games for Detroit against the AL East.
Key Trend: Detroit is 6-1 in their last seven games following an off day.

The Pick: Phillies (+147) — Even though he’ll be in a different uniform than they’re used to, Philly has a chance to get one over on an old nemesis in Max Scherzer. The Phillies are rolling heading into Tuesday’s matchup with Los Angeles. They are winners of eight-straight and have outscored their opponents 55-29 over that stretch. They have also played well at home against elite competition, owning a 13-3 mark over their last 16 home contests against clubs with a winning record.
While Scherzer’s success against them in the past is well-documented, this is a moment for Philadelphia to turn the tide and continue to show they are a legit threat in the National League.
⚾ Yankees vs. Royals, 8:10 p.m. | TV: MLB.TV
The Pick: Under 10 runs (-105) — The head-to-head trends lean towards the Over to hit in this matchup tonight, but the recent play of both of these clubs tells a different story.
The Under is 9-2 in New York’s last 11 road contests and 5-1 for the Royals in their last six home contests. That’s not to mention Kansas City’s 13-3 Under record in their past 16 matchups against teams with a winning record. In his 12 appearances (four starts) this season, Yankees lefty Nestor Cortes Jr. boasts a 2.15 ERA. He faced the Royals earlier in the year while coming in as a reliever and struck out five over 2.2 innings while allowing no runs.
Meanwhile, in the previous eight games against a lefty for K.C., the Under is 7-1.
