Smokey Robinson To Honor His Past At Boys & Girls Clubs Gala
Smokey Robinson is to perform at the 10th Annual Great Futures Gala on October 2. The event is organized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee (BGCMT). The Motown giant is an alumnus of the long-established movement: as a young man, he received a helping hand from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan in Detroit.
The annual fundraiser, which realises over $500,000 for local youth programs and services, also features an auction experience, dinner, and mission moments. It supports 11 Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Davidson and Williamson counties, also backing efforts to serve 10,000 youths in Middle Tennessee. It will take place from 5pm to 9pm at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, 1000 Broadway, Nashville.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee has helped young people to reach their full potential for over 118 years. The event will also spotlight the BGCMT’s Youth of the Year, demonstrating how they have achieved academic success, a healthy lifestyle and good character through their Club engagement.
Eric Higgs, president and CEO of BGCMT, says: “Smokey’s experiences with the Boys & Girls Clubs during his childhood in Detroit make him the perfect fit for shining a spotlight on the importance of our programs and how they help local youth build their own great futures.
‘A role model for our youth’
“Not only is he a role model for our youth, he has also inspired generations of musicians and will be sure to put on a show that Great Futures Gala attendees will remember for years to come.”
Tickets, tables, and sponsorships can be secured at www.BGCMT.org. The presenting sponsor of this year’s fundraiser is Nissan, and CAT Financial is an entertainment sponsor.
Late last year, Robinson joined forces with Leona Lewis, Tori Kelly and Sam Fischer for a new performance of Bacharach & David’s classic “What The World Needs Now,” to send a message of hope and to celebrate the work of the American Red Cross.
