Queen Elizabeth Reacts to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Pregnancy News
From Good Housekeeping
Queen Elizabeth couldn’t be happier to have another great-grandchild on the way. After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced earlier today that they were expecting their second child, the Queen issued a sweet statement about the news.
“Her Majesty, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and entire family [are] ‘delighted’ and wish them well,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson tells T&C. It’s understood that the royal family had been told about Meghan’s pregnancy prior to the announcement.
Not much is known yet about the new Baby Sussex—including the child’s expected due date. What is clear, though, is how excited Harry and Meghan are about their growing family. “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child,” a spokesperson for the couple said. The royal couple also released a sweet photo, taken remotely by their longtime friend Misan Harriman, to celebrate the news—check it out below.
It’s been a big week for royal baby news. Just last Tuesday, the royal family announced that Princess Eugenie had given birth to her and Jack Brooksbank’s first child—a healthy boy, weighing 8lbs 1oz. “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present,” read a statement from the Windsors.
Naturally, the whole family was excited about the new arrival. “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement added. For their part, Harry and Meghan congratulated the new parents privately.
The Sussexes’ second child will be either the Queen’s tenth or eleventh great-grandchild—depending on whether the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Tindall, who announced she was pregnant in December, gives birth before or after Meghan.
