One interesting fact: “Connecticut has the highest rate of vaccination among children in the United States, according to Governor Ned Lamont,” reports NBC CT. “Currently, those 12 and up are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine. Kids aged 5 to 11 are not yet eligible for the vaccine, but they could be soon.” “I’m proud of Connecticut for once again leading by example. By having 80.2% of our kids vaccinated and covered, well above the 70.5% national average, we can ensure that a vast majority will remain healthy, safe, and in school where they have the most opportunity to thrive,” he said.

Mandates are working in Hawaii. “Over 60% of Hawaii businesses require their employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or be tested — and more than 84% say they have employees who have gotten vaccinated,” according to the Star Advertiser. “The overwhelming reasons businesses support the mandate are to protect the community, decrease the spread of COVID-19, protect employees, increase safety at work and to protect customers,” UHERO said. “The reasons or barriers why businesses do not support the mandate include the belief that it is not legal and/or constitutional, due to employee resistance and personal preference of the employer.”

“While most Massachusetts employees and contractors proved they rolled up their sleeves for COVID-19 vaccine shots or asked for an exemption following Gov. Charlie Baker’s August order requiring protection against the virus, almost 1,600 workers may face discipline after missing the Sunday mandate deadline,” reports MassLive. “According to the governor’s office, 40,462 active employees verified their vaccination or applied for a medical or religious exemption. The Baker administration says it has not received the required paperwork from 1,571 workers.”

Despite the high number of vaccinations, Delta sneaks by. “Vermont saw a new COVID-19 positive case count record over the weekend as the virus’s delta strain continues to surge through the state,” reports the Burlington Free Press. “The state’s Health Department reported 347 new cases Saturday, including 10 probable cases counted toward the daily total. On Sunday, the state continued to report high numbers — 241 cases total — and 38 people in the hospital, including 11 in the intensive care unit. The state also reported a total of 345 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.”
