Pamplin Media Group – Canby man lifts way into record books

For 92-year-old Roger Moore, pumping iron has been a healthy lifestyle while he’s pursuing records.

Roger Moore is not your typical 92-year-old. Three times a week, Moore can be found at Club Fit in Canby lifting weights with his friends.

Those consistent hours of training helped prepare him for something special — his world-record setting lift of 160 pounds in the bench press in the 90-94 age bracket onSunday, June 13, in Medford.

This is not Moore’s first record lift. He set another lifting record at age 85.

In the late 1980s, Moore read an article in the newspaper about a man setting a weightlifting record. Moore realized that both men were the same age and the record that was set was less than what Moore was lifting at the gym. He decided to check out the World Association of Bench Press and Dead-Lifters (WABDL) to see what the organization was about. Competitions are held through out the United States.

The rest, as they say, is weightlifting history.

Next up for Moore is to bulk up his 144-pound frame so that he can move into a different weight class. Moore credits his 30 years of lifting weights to his good health and physical well-being.
