Despite recent reports that Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz would likely miss the start of the 2021 season as he recovers from foot surgery, the news today changes that narrative entirely.

According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Wentz is now on pace to open the season against the Seattle Seahawks as the starter. He’s considerably ahead of schedule from the 8-12 week recovery time that was initially made public.

The Colts have a roster well-equipped to make the playoffs and go on a deep run. So having a healthy Wentz available (assuming he can return to better form) for more games will have fans giddy.

And suffice it to say, Colts fans already are. Fans are now pumped that their starting quarterback is going to be ready for the season, and they’re showing it on Twitter.

Eagles fans were also very pleased with the news. Given that the future draft compensation for the trade that sent Wentz to the Colts hinges on how much he plays this year, they’re happy to see Wentz on pace to start the season.

The Colts didn’t exactly have to pay an arm and a leg to bring Wentz into the fold. And reuniting Wentz with head coach Frank Reich, who previously coached Wentz to his best season in Philly, gives them all the confidence in the world.

It’s been over a decade since the Colts last made the Super Bowl. While they aren’t exactly favorites to go this year, their odds definitely improve with Wentz as opposed to the backups.

Will we see Carson Wentz under center for the Colts in Week 1?
