New Rite Aid coming to SouthSide Works at former American Eagle location
Rite Aid plans to open a store at the SouthSide Works complex next year in the building that once housed an American Eagle Outfitters retail shop.
The store will occupy more than 9,000 square feet at the corner of 27th and Carson Streets, according to SomeraRoad, Inc., owner and operator of SouthSide Works.
“Every community has a need for a drug store that people can count on to partner with in their journey to achieve whole health,” Rite Aid said in a statement.
The spokesperson said Rite Aid offers “healthy product options in clean and well-run facilities.”
The addition of Rite Aid is part of SomeraRoad’s revitalization of the area. The company is investing more than $37 million in capital improvements and $130 million in new development on the property and riverfront parcels as a part of its master plan to revitalize the property, it said.
The drug store is coming to SouthSide Works through a collaboration among SomeraRoad, TarquinCoRE, a commercial real estate company which is Rite Aid’s broker, and developer Herky Pollock, executive vice president of CBRE, a real estate service and investment firm.
“As we continue to develop the property into the city’s most active live-work-play center, the key to that vision is finding tenants who address the needs of the community,” said Jonathon Reeser, SomeraRoad director of acquisitions. “Since acquiring the property we’ve heard from so many residents and stakeholders in the SouthSide, and they have all requested a neighborhood pharmacy and everyday lifestyle shopping option. “
The space was chosen because it is centrally located, close to other stores and shops and has nearby street parking.
Rite Aid has approximately 2,500 stores in 19 states, according to its website.
