Nationals place Will Harris on 10-day injured list

1 min read

The Nationals placed Will Harris on the injured list Friday because of a strained right groin.

The move is retroactive to July 29. Harris can rejoin the team Aug. 8, which means he would only miss three games. The Nationals are off all weekend because their series against Miami was postponed. They also had built-in off-days Monday, Aug. 3, and Thursday, Aug. 6. They host a three-game series against Baltimore starting Aug. 7.

Harris has a 6.75 ERA and 3.75 WHIP after two rough appearances to start the season. Back on July 20, when the team played in Baltimore, Harris ran to first to cover the bag for the final out of his two-inning appearance. He looked down at the field while walking back to the dugout. Something appeared wrong. Davey Martinez said Harris was OK at the time, that he just had not sprinted over to first to cover the bag in a while.

The Nationals signed Harris, 35, to a three-year, $24 million deal in the offseason. He has been one of Major League Baseball’s most consistent relievers the last five years.

Harris also dealt with an abdominal strain in the spring, but said he was healthy once workouts resumed July 3.
