Local farmer food market coming to Upstate community

Set to start in May at Jimi Turner Park

More fresh food options are on the way for one Upstate community. The Slater-Marietta Community Association will open a local farmer vendor market this May. It will open every Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jimi Turner Park in Marietta, according to Gina Hinton of the Slater-Marietta Community Association (SCMA). “One of our objectives to our mission is providing resources to healthy food and with our local grocery store closing down a few years back, we have a need for healthy food options here and especially from our local farms and vendors,” Hinton said. The market is also meant to help build community and will also feature events and entertainment, she said. Hinton said the market is made possible through the support of SMCA members, local churches, and local organizations such as Foothills Family Resources, Slater-Marietta Youth association, Live Well Greenville, Project Host, Greenville County Rec, County Councilman Joe Dill and local farmers.
