Rams’ John Wolford: Set for season opener
John Wolford (appendix) isn’t listed on the Los Angeles Rams’ injury report Wednesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. An emergency appendectomy was ordered up on Aug. 6 after Wolford was awakened in discomfort. He proceeded to sit out the entire preseason, even though he got back on the practice field Aug. 23 and directed the second-team offense. With the offseason trade of Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford, there’s no question about Wolford’s standing in the quarterback room as Stafford’s direct backup.

Rams’ John Wolford: Given clean bill of health
John Wolford isn’t expected to play Saturday after coach Sean McVay said QB Bryce Perkins would play the entire game against the Broncos, with Wolford serving only as an emergency option with no other backup quarterbacks on the roster, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.Wolford remains the projected backup to No. 1 quarterback Matthew Stafford heading into the 2021 season. It’s encouraging to hear Wolford has quickly recovered from the appendectomy he underwent earlier this month, and he ran all of the second-team reps during practice Monday. While there probably isn’t a lot of current fantasy upside with the third-year signal caller in most settings, McVay has shown confidence in Wolford in the past because of his dual-threat potential.

Rams’ John Wolford: Will not play in preseason
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that John Wolford (appendix) won’t be available to play during the preseason, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports. The backup quarterback is continuing to recover from an appendectomy he had last week. In his absence, look for Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges to carry the load for the majority of the preseason snaps. However, the Rams seem set to have Wolford as their main backup to Matthew Stafford for the 2021 season.

Rams’ John Wolford: Undergoes appendectomy
John Wolford had an appendectomy Friday and will be sidelined for 10-14 days, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.Wolford woke up with discomfort Friday morning and underwent surgery once its nature was determined. Based off his return timetable, he won’t get any preseason action until Saturday, Aug. 21, at the earliest. It’s more likely that if he does, though, it’ll happen in the Los Angeles Rams’ exhibition finale Saturday, Aug. 28 at Denver. When healthy, Wolford serves as L.A.’s No. 2 QB behind Matthew Stafford, but his absence will allow Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges to get more reps with the reserves.

Rams’ John Wolford: Set for backup duties
John Wolford will back up Matthew Stafford during the 2021 season, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN reports. There was speculation that Wolford could compete with Jared Goff this offseason for the starting QB job after he started the regular-season finale and the team’s first playoff game last season. Wolford’s brief time under center wasn’t anything special, and the rumblings that he could battle for the starting job were likely more to motivate Goff more than set up an open competition. Nevertheless, just three days after that report, the Los Angeles Rams acquired Matthew Stafford from the Lions for Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick. There won’t be a competition for the starting job anymore, but Wolford has likely locked up the backup gig.

Rams’ John Wolford: Could push Goff for starting job
The Los Angeles Rams may give John Wolford (neck) a chance to compete with Jared Goff for the starting quarterback role in 2021, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The 25-year-old Wolford saw his first NFL action Week 17, leading the Rams to an 18-7 victory over the Cardinals to clinch a playoff spot. He picked up another start in place of Goff (thumb) in the wild-card round victory over Seattle, but he left that game early after taking a big hit to the neck from a defender. While his brief stint under center was less than spectacular, Wolford seems to have made a strong impression on the Rams, potentially setting him up for a job battle in training camp.

Rams’ John Wolford: Ruled out for Saturday
John Wolford (neck) won’t play in Saturday’s playoff game at Green Bay, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.Wolford is recovering from a stinger after his early exit in the wild-card win over Seattle. He hasn’t been able to practice this week, and coach Sean McVay said the 25-year-old QB won’t be able to play. Wolford will still travel with the team, but Jared Goff will get the start, with Blake Bortles serving as the backup.

Rams’ John Wolford: Held out again Wednesday
John Wolford (neck) was a non-participant at Wednesday’s practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.Instead, Wolford was a spectator while Jared Goff (thumb) logged another full session. Wolford may not be cleared to practice this week after enduring a stinger in Saturday’s wild-card win over Seattle, and with just three days to go before a divisional-round game at Green Bay, Goff seems to be trending toward the start under center.

Rams’ John Wolford: Not practicing Tuesday
John Wolford (neck) was a non-participant on Tuesday’s practice estimate, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.Wolford got the nod at quarterback this past Saturday at Seattle with Jared Goff just 12 days removed from surgery on a dislocated right thumb. However, Wolford didn’t last long, taking a hit on the helmet from Jamal Adams that eventually led to a visit to the hospital as a precaution. On Sunday, Wolford was diagnosed with a stinger and called day-to-day by McVay, according to Stu Jackson of the Ram’s official site. While Wolford was held out of Tuesday’s walk-through, Goff was a full participant following his 155-yard, one touchdown performance against the Seahawks. Still, McVay has yet to make a call on L.A.’s starting QB for Saturday’s divisional-round game in Green Bay.

Rams’ John Wolford: Listed as day-to-day
John Wolford (neck) is day-to-day with a stinger, per coach Sean McVay, Stu Jackson of the Los Angeles Rams’ official site reports.Wolford was taken to the hospital after taking a shoulder to the head from Seahawks safety Jamal Adams early in Saturday’s wild-card round win. Given that context, a day-to-day label is good news. Even if Wolford’s able to gain clearance for Saturday’s NFC divisional round matchup against the Packers, it’s unclear who the Rams will roll with under center after Jared Goff played through a thumb injury and led the team to victory after Wolford’s exit against Seattle.
