HR 1 would preserve ‘one person, one vote’
Sad to see many of today’s Republicans being sucked into the abys of Trumpism. Take newly elected Rep. Ashley Hinson, for example. In her Gazette guest editorial March 11, she repeats the “big lie” about the presidential election and accepts the cancer of big money in politics with her opposition to HR 1, the most important election reform measure of our lifetime. This bill preserves the constitutional principle of “one person, one vote” and begins to drive the money changers from the temple of democracy. Hers is such a dramatic shift from the service someone like lauded Iowa Republican Congressman Jim Leach who fought the corrupting influence of money in politics and for election integrity throughout his 30 years (1977-2007) of service.
