“The overall goal is the term that everybody is using, herd immunity,” Paula Kreissler, the executive director of Healthy Savannah said.

Even before the Johnson & Johnson vaccine pause on Tuesday, some people had already been experiencing some vaccine hesitancy.

“We’ve seen some people not come back for their second dose,” Dr. Lawton Davis with the Coastal Health District said.

We’re told that had largely been due to people not wanting to experience the symptoms associated with the second shot, but the pausing of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is also known as the Janssen vaccine, likely is not going to help.

That’s why the creators of “Know Your Facts + Get Your Vax” said they hope their efforts make a difference in encouraging people to get fully vaccinated.

“We’re all working together to be able to provide access and acceptance to the vaccine locally because we know that’s what going to help us move and make us all smile more over time,” Kreissler said.

Chatham County, the City of Savannah, Gulfstream Aerospace and the Department of Public Health Coastal Health District joined with Hospice Savannah, Healthy Savannah and United Way of the Coastal Empire to offer this free assistance.
