Holland Hospital offering bariatric services – News – Holland Sentinel
HOLLAND — A new service from Holland Hospital will aim to help people achieve a healthy weight with expert help and coordinated support. The hospital is partnering with Grand Rapids-based Grand Health Partners to provide bariatric services.
Holland Hospital Bariatric Services will provide weight-loss experts and surgeons to perform bariatric surgeries at the hospital. Patients will have access to nutrition, exercise, behavioral health and surgical support as they look to lose weight.
“We offer a personal and comprehensive approach to weight loss, including both surgical and nonsurgical options,” said Randal Baker, MD, bariatric specialist at Grand Health Partners. “Because we understand excessive weight is a complex disease, and that genetic, social, cultural and emotional factors all play a role, our patients are properly supported and equipped throughout their weight-loss journey.”
The hospital says that discussing things like eating habits, exercise and lifestyle can be intimidating, but their experts are there to help.
“Struggling with weight doesn’t mean you’ve failed, and for many people, it isn’t as simple as eating less and exercising more either,” said Jeremy Bushman, MD, medical director for Grand Health Partners at Holland Hospital. “Achieving a healthy weight may require expert help and coordinated support to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
While bariatric surgery is not for everyone, it may be the best decision to achieve weight loss goals in consultation with an experienced bariatric specialist.
