Highmark Blue Shield Employees Collect more than 1,200 Pounds of Food for Regional Food Bank | Local Announcements

LATHAM — Recently, Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York employees lined up at the company’s headquarters for its second annual drive-through food drive to benefit the Regional Food Bank.

Highmark Blue Shield employees collected 1,245 pounds of items from the organization’s healthy food wish list. The only organization of its kind in Northeastern New York, the Food Bank provides more than 55 million pounds of food a year to disadvantaged people in 23 counties.

“If there is an opportunity to support our community, Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York employees are the first ones there,” said Keith Dolan, Regional Executive, Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York. “Highmark Blue Shield is proud to support the Regional Food Bank and do our part in helping end hunger in our community.”

“Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York and its dedicated employees are some of the Food Bank’s most enthusiastic food drive supporters,” said Joanne Dwyer, Director of Food Industry Relations and Business Development Representative for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. “Between their food and monetary donations, they raised 2,295 meals to help feed people in need! On behalf of everyone at the Food Bank and the non-profit programs we serve throughout 23 counties, we thank them for their kindness and generosity.”

Highmark Blue Shield employees have a long legacy of paying it forward. Most recently, the health plan’s employees donated $5,000 to local organizations and sent thousands of healthy snack-packs and meals to those serving on the frontlines of the pandemic.
