Hawaii Governor wants students to wear masks in school, regardless of vaccination status – Honolulu, Hawaii news, sports & weather
“We’ve had a team from the Department of Health, working with the leadership and the principals and frontline employees in the Department of Education, to really go through all the different scenarios and the mitigation actions that we need to have in place to keep our community healthy and safe. And they’ve also talked through, you know, what happened? Should there be a COVID case, you know, what’s necessary to isolate a classroom, isolate a couple of classrooms or even shut down a building, depending on what the outbreak looks like,” Gov. Ige said. “The principal’s feel like they’re in a good space. You know, one of the reasons why we haven’t been able to get guidance out to parents, is the fact that the CDC changed the guidance, just recently, and although the Department of Health and Department of Education had proceeded to establish their own standards, so that we would be ready for when school started, they did have to review the new guidance and make some adjustments. You know, in some instances, they were planning, stricter mitigation measures, and they are implementing the stricter guidance. In some instances, they can relax the guidance in order to make it work. But everyone is committed to getting our children back to in person learning in a safe and healthy way.”
