Had Jammie And John Stayed

I’d be a heck more comfortable with this group going into 2021. John is a #1 corner that can handle a side of the field. Jammie is a stud safety that would be a monster in Coach White’s scheme. Those two would give me a lot more comfort on the backend. Especially, if the same transfers we have now would still be here.

At corner and nickel, Carlins Platel, Cam Smith, David Spaulding, Joey Hunter, La’Dareyen Craig, Isaiah Norris, Dominick Hill, Darius Rush, and Marcellas Dial. You can also add Jahmar Brown and Kolbe Fields. Brown plays at the nickel now, and Fields is probably more athletic and bigger. But I’m not sure where they plan to use Fields, he is an interesting prospect that can fit in a few different roles.

At safety, RJ Roderick, Jaylen Foster, Tyrese Ross, O’Donnell Fortune, Jaylin Dickerson, and I like what I saw from Fabian Goodman in the spring game. And Brown and Fields could get some snaps back there, along with several of some of these new names as well.

I like Isaiah Norris at corner, he is a physical corner that has really good hips. Joey Hunter’s length is a dream for coaches there. Carlins Platel is very technical and a hard hitter. He has great size at 6’2″ 198lbs, but he does not have great speed. I just don’t have a good feel for how this will shake out when everyone is healthy.

There so many questions and no straight up answers to be given. I mean yes, Cam Smith is an elite athlete, he’s made strides and had some impressive moments in the spring, but can he be consistent? Dial looked ok, I think I prefer him at nickel however. Ross is a safety, but I think he would be better at Nickel. He is very twitchy and quick with very smooth feet and fluid hips. He also has shown he loves to hit, and displays good tackling habits.

Hopefully, the staff will bring in one more DB, preferably a guy who is more experienced at safety. But whatever the case, this fall is going to be interesting. We have to have Dickerson healthy. This is why I wish John and Jammie had stayed, they would have taken a lot of this concern away.

At linebacker, I feel better once I know guys are healthy. Greene, Kaba, Debo, and Brown makes me comfortable at linebacker. You also have Fields and Bam Scott coming in. Plus Brad Johnson and Rosendo Louis are there as well. However, I can’t picture an outcome with Staley, Johnson, Foster, and Roderick manning the middle of this defense and it be a good one. That is not where we need to be come week 2 against ECU or after.
