Grocery store aimed at addressing food insecurity in west Louisville officially opens


A new grocery store in west Louisville looking to address food insecurity in the area has officially opened. Following soft openings in October and on Black Friday, Black Market Kentucky held a grand opening Sunday at 2313 W. Market St., taking a place of a former pizza shop. The store is now home to some of the area’s most accessible options for fresh and healthy food.The grocery store was founded by Shauntrice Martin early last year. She said it’s the direct result of the #FeedTheWest initiative, which was created nearly six months ago to address food issues for West End residents.The store sells products from other Black-owned businesses and features products from Black farmers. By being stationed in a primarily Black neighborhood, Martin says this is an image aspiring entrepreneurs need to see.The store hours are as follow:Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.Monday-Tuesday, CLOSEDWednesday-Saturday, noon to 7 p.m.To find out more about the market, click here.
