  • Hornets’ Gordon Hayward: Expected to be healthy for camp

    Rotowire

    May 20, 2021

Hayward (foot) is expected to be 100 percent healthy for the start of training camp, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Hayward missed the final 25 games of the season due to a sprained right foot, and the Hornets were eliminated from playoff contention after losing a play-in game against the Pacers. Hayward’s health continues to be a concern. He’s appeared in just 96 games across the past two seasons and will be entering his age 31 season in 2021-22. Hayward was great when he did play this season, as he averaged 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.2 steals in 34.0 minutes. The Hornets went 24-20 in games he appeared in.

    Rotowire

    May 17, 2021

Hayward (foot) is ruled out for Tuesday’s match against the Pacers, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Hayward was cleared for weight-bearing work last week, but he still has yet to resume on-court work in practice, a hint that returning to game-action is still several steps away. Cody Martin (ankle) is also out Tuesday.

  • Hornets’ Gordon Hayward: Likely out for play-in

    Rotowire

    May 12, 2021

Hayward (foot) is not expected to be available for the play-in tournament, Rod Boone of SI.com reports.

The Hornets are essentially locked into the play-in tournament, but Hayward is not expected to be available. He was cleared for weight-bearing work last week. Until he’s able to practice with contact, we shouldn’t expect Hayward to return this season.

  • Hornets’ Gordon Hayward: Cleared for weight-bearing work

    Rotowire

    May 7, 2021

Hayward (foot) was cleared to resume weight-bearing exercises Tuesday.

After ditching the walking boot on his sprained right foot last week, Hayward will take the next step forward in his recovery process by taking part in strengthening exercises. Hayward still looks to be several days away from resuming on-court work in practice, so he could face an uphill battle to make it back for any of the Hornets‘ final six regular-season games. Expect Charlotte to pass along another update on his status early next week.

  • Hornets’ Gordon Hayward: Out of walking boot

    Rotowire

    May 1, 2021

Hayward (foot) is out of a walking boot, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Hayward has been out since early April due to a sprained right foot, and he’s finally shed the walking boot he was using. There’s obviously still some time before Hayward potentially sees the court again, and we shouldn’t be surprised if he misses the remainder of the regular season.

    Rotowire

    Apr 27, 2021

Hayward (foot) is not close to returning to game action, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.

When asked about Hayward’s recovery from a sprained foot, coach James Borrego said Tuesday that Hayward “is not there yet,” in terms of doing any on-court work. The star forward is set to be re-evaluated within the next few days, but at this stage, the Hornets will be lucky to get Hayward back before the end of the regular season.
