Warriors at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Nets 119, Warriors 115
Money line (ML)
I lean Warriors (+240) because I’m going to take Golden State plus the points on the spread, and I usually like to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when I bet them to cover.
Everything about the Nets heading into this season points up. Brooklyn should be a contender for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and F Kevin Durant will be an MVP contender. Both Durant and PG Kyrie Irving have looked awesome this preseason, and I’m a fan of the Steve Nash head coaching hire and bringing Mike D’Antoni—the point guard whisperer— with him. They’re going to help make Brooklyn a potent offense.
If the Warriors line gets steamed up to 3-to-1 or better to win, I’ll probably take a shot at it but for now, I’ll PASS ON THE MONEY LINE.
Against the spread (ATS)
There are a lot of mouths to feed for the Nets and it could be a struggle initially figuring out how to split the offensive usage in Brooklyn. Everyone knows the pecking order in Golden State and head coach Steve Kerr will have a better handle of his team’s optimal lineup rotations than Nash in his first game.
Also, there’s inherent value in a Warriors team the public is selling stock on because of the season-ending injury to SG Klay Thompson, playing against a Nets team that looks amazing on paper and should be great by season’s end.
Furthermore, the absence of Thompson and PF Draymond Green was already baked into the line. The market movement—66% of the action is on the Nets—bumped Brooklyn up from a 5.5-point favorite to the current price, according to Pregame.com. The injuries aren’t new news and there has been too much line movement for a team whose best players haven’t played together.
GIMME WARRIORS +7.5 (-110) for 1 unit.
Over/Under (O/U)
I eluded to how sick this Nets offense could be with Nash and D’Antoni working the gears and the Warriors have a healthy, motivated Curry ready for the regular season.
Golden State’s addition of SF Kelly Oubre adds some offensive versatility to this team and PF Eric Paschall filling in for an injured Green should improve the Warriors’ scoring.
Lastly, high-profile games logically lend to an Under bet with more intensity, the national TV spotlight and a raucous crowd. With no home crowd and all these great offensive minds, I’ll TAKE OVER 232.5 (-110) for 1 unit.
