Warriors’ Eric Paschall: Shines in second-unit role

Eric Paschall posted 15 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-7 FT), two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 19 minutes off the bench Sunday in the Golden State Warriors’ 129-128 win over the Bulls.Paschall started at power forward in the Warriors’ first two games in place of Draymond Green, but after being benched for the start of the second half of the Christmas Day loss to the Bucks, he lost his spot on the top unit to Juan Toscano-Anderson for Sunday’s contest. The second-year forward responded well to the demotion to the second unit, and he could actually provide more value in a bench role while not having to share the court as frequently with higher-usage players like Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre. Paschall’s usage rate was at 23.5 percent Sunday, up from 15 percent and 11.8 percent in his two games as a starter.

Warriors’ Eric Paschall: Ready to embrace lesser role

In an interview with Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Eric Paschall said he’s anticipating taking on a lesser role with Klay Thompson (knee) and Steph Curry (hand) expected back healthy. “I mean, I know I’m going to take a lesser role,” Paschall said. “But I still feel I’m going to make an impact because I feel like I’ve proven myself. I feel like I’m ready to prove myself at the highest level.”Paschall joined the Golden State Warriors as a rookie under unique circumstances, as the team found itself in the midst of a holding pattern following five straight trips to the NBA Finals. After Curry injured his hand early in the season, Golden State shifted toward a full-on youth movement, enabling Paschall to step into a larger role than anticipated. Across 60 games, Paschall averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists while making 26 starts and playing nearly 28 minutes per game. With a healthy roster next season, the Villanova product is aware he’ll likely take a backseat, but he said he’ll be ready to contribute to what should be a much more competitive roster. “The spacing’s going to be ridiculous,” Paschall said of playing alongside Curry and Thompson. “I can’t wait for that.”
