English woman has fear of trying new food, eats only bread, cheese

Who knew that fear could sound so delicious?

A woman in North Yorkshire, England claims to have a phobia of trying new food. As such, she sustains herself on a steady diet of food items such as garlic bread and cheese sandwiches.

The New York Post reports how the 34-year-old woman, Emma, gets extremely nervous when it comes to trying out different grub. This means that she has not only lived with a gripping nervosa every time she even attempts to try something like a tomato, but that her health and even social life are strained by her extremely particular diet.

“I’ve been unable to try new foods, just the thought of trying them stresses me out, makes me all tense,” explains Emma.

Emma’s food phobia—as well as those others like her—are the focus of the British TV series, “Extreme Food Phobics.” As described by WhatToWatch.com, The show follows one Dr. Ranj Singh as he travels across the country to help people overcome their food fears in order to embark on a healthier lifestyle.

The phobias featured on the show are as varied as a charcuterie board as well: One episode features a chef who’s convinced he’ll gag if he tastes his own creations while another showcases what it’s like to have a bread addiction.

The Mirror details how one woman named Charlie even has a fear of apples and bananas so severe, she gets heart palpitations just upon seeing them. Instead, she goes straight for the safety of mac n’ cheese.

Honestly, though, out of everything else you can be afraid of, something that pushes you towards eating bread and cheese doesn’t sound all too bad.
