Saints’ Deonte Harris: Remains without suspension
Deonte Harris has not yet received a suspension or other punishment from the NFL following his July 16 arrest for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. While such issues commonly lead to a two-game suspension, Harris presumably won’t receive any punishment until after the legal process has played out, which doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon. In the meantime, Harris is slated for a significant role at receiver while Michael Thomas (ankle) misses at least the first six weeks of the season on the PUP list. Boding well for his fantasy stock is the fact that true pocket passer Jameis Winston won the New Orleans Saints’ starting quarterback job over the dual-threat Taysom Hill, though Harris will still have to compete for targets with Tre’Quan Smith (undisclosed), Marquez Callaway, Ty Montgomery and Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Arrested for DUI allegation
Deonte Harris was arrested July 16 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.Underhill mentioned that a DUI arrest often leads to a two-game suspension, though not until the legal process has played out. Harris should be available Week 1 for a New Orleans Saints team that will be missing Michael Thomas (ankle), but it is possible the 5-foot-6 wide receiver is suspended later in the season or next year.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Opportunity knocks
Deonte Harris should have an opportunity to step up during the beginning of the upcoming season with Michael Thomas (ankle) expected to miss at least the first four games, Mike Triplett of ESPN reports.Rather than mainly compete with Marquez Callaway for the No. 3 job behind Thomas and Tre’Quan Smith, Harris could spend training camp preparing for a starting role after flashing numerous times as a rotational player over the past two years. Should he succeed in that feat and subsequently perform well as a starter in the regular season, it’s possible that Harris then may gain an edge over Callaway for playing time once Thomas returns to the field. After posting a 4.35-second 40 time at his pro day in 2019, Harris has the speed to thrive as a deep threat for a strong-armed quarterback like Jameis Winston, but his production might be less reliable if New Orleans rides with the dual-threat Taysom Hill as its starting QB.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Looking for more targets
Deonte Harris hopes to become a bigger part of the New Orleans Saints’ passing attack this season, Rod Walker of nola.com reports.Harris got some run as the Saints’ No. 3 receiver last year, with his season highlighted by a seven-catch performance in the wild-card round of the playoffs and a 55-yard punt return in the divisional round. He aggravated a neck injury in that last game but now appears to have returned healthy for the offseason program. Michael Thomas is the only sure thing among New Orleans wideouts, so the 5-foot-6 Harris could be right in the mix for a top-three role, competing with Tre’Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, Juwan Johnson and a few other young players. If nothing else, Harris’ work on special teams should keep him on the roster for Week 1. A sizable increase from last year’s total of 25 targets (in nine regular-season games) isn’t out of the question, especially if Jameis Winston beats out Taysom Hill for the starting QB job in New Orleans.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Takes step forward in second season
Deonte Harris (neck) finished the 2020 regular season with 20 receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown and added six carries for 51 yards.Harris saw some increased run with injuries in New Orleans’ receiving corps, though injuries of his own forced him to miss seven games, not to mention a neck injury forced him out of the New Orleans Saints’ playoff loss to Tampa Bay. Prior to that, he went 7-83-0 in the wild-card round against Chicago. The second-year man took a step forward in the receiving game, though it’s reasonable to expect some regression if Michael Thomas can stay healthy all season. Harris will likely make his mark as a return specialist in 2021.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Hurts neck against Bucs
Deonte Harris (neck) is questionable to return to Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, Larry Holder of The Athletic reports.Harris made a major impact in the return game before suffering the injury, gaining 54 yards on his first punt return to set up a field goal and having a would-be touchdown called back due to a penalty on his second punt return. He wasn’t much of a factor on offense in the regular season but led the New Orleans Saints in catches and receiving yards in the wild-card round, so Harris will be missed in multiple phases of the game if he’s unable to return.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Leads team in receiving
Deonte Harris caught all seven of his targets for 83 yards in the New Orleans Saints’ 21-9 win over the Bears on Sunday. After being activated from injured reserve Saturday, Harris wasted no time getting back into action for the Saints, as he paced the team in receptions and receiving yards while tying for team lead in targets. His regular-season highs in receptions and receiving yards came in Week 7 with a 4-46-1 performance, so this was easily his best showing of the campaign. Harris will look to keep the momentum rolling in the NFC divisional round when the Saints host the Buccaneers.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Lifted from IR
Deonte Harris (neck) was activated from injured reserve Saturday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.Harris will return to action for Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Bears. With Michael Thomas (ankle) back in action as well, Harris will battle fellow wideout Marquez Callaway for playing time behind Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. Harris should also contribute in the return game. Through 11 outings this year, the 23-year-old has averaged 12.2 yards per punt return and 27.3 yards per kick return.

Saints’ Deonte Harris: Eligible for postseason return
Deonte Harris (neck) was designated to return from IR and returned to practice Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. The return man has been on IR for three weeks, so he’s eligible to rejoin the active roster whenever he’s deemed healthy. If Harris is able to get up to speed in practice this week, he could take the field as soon as Sunday’s wild-card round showdown against the Bears, though he’ll need to be officially removed from IR in order to suit up.
