Chiefs get great injury news on cornerback Bashaud Breeland

The Kansas City Chiefs will have cornerback Bashaud Breeland available to play on Sunday.

With the Kansas City Chiefs banged up heading into the AFC Championship game vs. the Buffalo Bills, they got some more good news on the injury front, as cornerback Bashaud Breeland has cleared concussion protocol.

Obviously, the biggest injury concern regarding the Chiefs is superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. While most people know that he exited last week’s AFC Divisional round win over the Cleveland Browns with a concussion, the injury of his to keep an eye on is his toe. This could limit his mobility in this high-stakes AFC title bout with a trip to Super Bowl 55 on the line.

How much does having a healthy Bashaud Breeland help lift the Chiefs?

The great part about getting Breeland back is it helps give the Chiefs the depth and versatility in its secondary. Though the position group is led by Tyrann Mathieu, gaining another starting-level player back into action will go a long way in helping the Chiefs defense contain NFL MVP hopeful Josh Allen at quarterback. Slowing him and star wide receiver Stefon Diggs down is paramount.

Overall, Breeland is not going to move the needle one way or another with the outcome of the game. Sure, he or one of his Chiefs teammates may force a turnover or intercept a pass to tip the scales in Kansas City’s favor. However, we all know how Kansas City has to win this game. Mahomes must outplay Allen at Arrowhead to continue to assert his dominance over the AFC.

With a healthy Breeland, look for Steve Spagnuolo to get even more creative with his defense.
