15 Healthiest Counties in New Jersey | Healthiest Communities

Ten of New Jersey’s counties land in the top 500 of the 2021 Healthiest Communities rankings, including four that place in the top 100 overall and two that hold spots in the top 50.

The fourth annual Healthiest Communities project from U.S. News assessed nearly 3,000 counties and county equivalents nationwide across dozens of metrics that explore the critical role location plays in the well-being of hundreds of millions of Americans, such as a community’s poverty rate, cancer incidence, spending on healthy food, walkability and more. Those metrics are grouped into 10 categories including food and nutrition, the environment, equity, population health, housing and public safety. Communities are scored on a 100-point scale tied to how they perform relative to one another, and receive a ranking based on their performance as well.

The Garden State’s 15 highest-scoring counties performed the strongest in the education, economy and public safety categories. On average, they performed the poorest in the housing and community vitality categories.

These are the 15 healthiest communities in New Jersey based on their overall scores out of 100 possible points, along with the categories in which they excelled the most and their Healthiest Communities ranking if within the top 500.
