How can it possibly be August?

It always feels like winter lasts an eternity while summer seems to last but a few days. Fortunately, this is a great month to be in the garden, whether to plant ornamentals and cool season vegetables or tending to what is currently growing.

Unbeknownst by many, gardening is actually an incredibly healthy activity and is considered to be a moderate intensity physical exercise. The CDC recommends getting 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise to reduce blood pressure and prevent the onset of type two diabetes. As difficult as it is to believe, gardening can burn upwards of 300 calories per hour, based upon whether you are weeding, pruning, raking or planting. Not only are you making your patch of heaven a little more attractive, but you are benefiting your health.
