Donut Strike for Manna sets new record with donated food and funds

Fire and police department personnel set a new record with 20,233 pounds of healthy food and $21,582 donated during the June 23-25 Donut Strike event for the Manna Food Bank in Pensacola.

The annual confectionary campaign that raises food and monetary donations to help feed the hungry in Pensacola set a new record with 20,233 pounds of healthy food and $21,582 donated.

That adds up to 34,074 healthy meals to feed the hungry in the community at a time when donations are down because of the cancellation of major food drives such as the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

One in three children go to bed hungry in this community. So, for participating agencies, this became a competition to see who could bring in the most groceries and money. The Pensacola Police Department won first place for pounds of food, and the Midway Fire District brought in the most cash.
