Bay City’s YMCA hosting open swim, camp demos during ‘Healthy Kids Day’ event
BAY CITY, MI – Families are invited to enjoy the warm weather during an event this weekend that focuses on promoting healthy habits through the YMCA in Bay City.
The Dow Bay Area Family YMCA is hosting its ‘Healthy Kids Day’ event from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 23. This event is a part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, according to a press release from the YMCA. Healthy Kids Day features free activities such as Summer Camp demos, open swim, giveaways, games, a chalk walk, crafts, and more to motivate families to stay active with their children throughout the summer.
“We believe in the potential of all children, and we strive to help kids find that potential within themselves. A child’s development is never on vacation and Healthy Kids Day is a great opportunity to educate families and motivate kids to stay active in spirit, mind, and body throughout the summer,” said Joslyn Jamrog, Dow Bay Area Family YMCA Membership and Marketing Director.
According to the YMCA, kids can face hurdles that prevent them from reaching their full potential when they are out of schools. Research shows that without access to out-of-school learning activities, kids fall behind academically and children are prone to gain weight twice as fast during summer vacation than during the school year, said the YMCA.
The event will take place at the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA at 225 Washington Ave. Bay City, MI and it is free and open to the public. A YMCA membership is not required to attend the event. Games and activities will be hosted outside, in the South Parking Lot, to better help enforce social distancing measures.
Those who are interested in attended are asked to mark “Going” in the YMCA’s Facebook Event for event updates.
